Chamonix

Short hike in the Alps

The Alps are the highest and most extensive mountain range system that lies entirely in Europe, and stretching approximately 1,200 kilometres across eight Alpine countries: France, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia.
In need to clear my mind, I joined some friends in Chamonix for a hiking weekend. we had an amazing moudy weather with an incredible view over the biggest glacier in France "la mer de glace".

Date: August 2019

Location: Chamonix, France

The glacier is 7 kilo-meters long, an average of 300 meters of thickness and a surface of 40km2. Even thought this landscape is absolutely beautiful, you can't deny to witness the global warming. Since 1870, the glacier is melting with a speed increasing year by year. Melting speed is now approximately a good 30 meters per year and is not showing any sign of slowing down. Climate change is a reality and places like this are living signs of it. It is time to take actions for our future generations. These pictures are here to remind me the beautiful moment I had hiking there but they are also here to show us our impact on the planet.

During the hikes, we had the chance to encounter a few Ibex.

All these images were taken with a Nikon D5600 with it's 18-55mm. I processed them with Lightroom and for more fine adjustement with Photoshop and Luminar 4.
