The type of monkeys that live in Bali, known as the Balinese long-tailed monkey or macaque. Are very common on the Island and easily seen around temples. Some of them live in the forest and feed from the nature and enjoy the offerings to the Gods as extra food, while others live in civilized area and are very used to human activities.
The Macaque monkeys are very socialised. Through this serie of black and white photography I wanted to show the life of these monkeys in their society. They feed, they take care of each other, they play, they fight, they have a family life. They are very alike human in their behaviour.
Most of this serie of pictures were taken in the Monkey Forest with my Nikon D800E and my Sigma 150mm f/2.8 Macro Lens. I first was afraid that a place like this would looks like a zoo, but I was nicely surprised it is not. It's really nice to walk into that forest where around 900 monkeys share the area, following their own rules. Being close to so many, allowed me to witness different behaviors in a short time. Really worth the visit if you are around Ubud in Bali.
